Jatiluwih, Morning

Sudarma walks the Jatiluwih ridge most mornings before the light hardens. This canvas comes from a single hour in the wet season, when each flooded paddy holds a separate piece of the sky and the terraces read less as ground than as a staircase of mirrors.

The greens are mixed with pigment ground from local earth, which is why they sit warmer than tube colour and shift slightly as the room’s light changes through the day. The horizon line is deliberately soft — Sudarma paints the moment before the mist lifts, not after.
