Agung, Before Rain

The largest work Sudarma has released through us. Agung sits low and wide across the canvas, and almost two thirds of the surface is given over to weather — the flat orange band along the horizon is the last of the direct sun, everything above it is the storm already arriving from the north-east.

Oil, worked wet-into-wet over three sittings so the cloud edges stay soft. At 160 cm it needs a wall that can hold it; in a smaller room it will dominate everything else you put near it.
