About this painting

The counterpart to Jatiluwih, Morning. Same ridge, same viewpoint, but painted in the dry season under a midday sun with the crop already cut.

Sudarma finds this the more honest of the two pictures. The terraces are a working farm, not a view, and for a good part of the year they are brown, hard- edged and full of stubble. The greens people come to photograph are a phase, not a state.
