About this painting

Sari’s most abstract piece to date. The subject is the garden of her family compound at eleven at night, lit by one bulb over the kitchen door — so perhaps five per cent of the garden is visible and the rest has to be inferred.

She paints exactly that: a few leaf shapes described in warm ochre where the bulb reaches them, and a very large amount of extremely carefully mixed blue-black where it does not. Oil pastel is scratched back into the wet acrylic for the stems.
