Monsoon Canopy

Sari paints the view most people in Bali see a hundred times a day and never look at: straight up, through the canopy, in the middle of a downpour.

The leaves nearest the viewer are laid in thick and cool; the ones behind them are thinned almost to a wash so the whole surface stays open rather than crowding. The white at the top is bare primed canvas, not paint — the brightest thing in the picture is the thing she left alone.
